Hardcore Sitting

Yes…the guy in this picture is really doing an invert in a wheelchair. His name is Aaron Fotheringham. He was born with spina bifida, and has had to be in a wheelchair most of his life. Rather than seeing the chair as a handicap however, Aaron has used it as an opportunity to do something completely unique. He calls it Hardcore Sitting.
It all started when he made a trip to the skate park with his brother one day and some kids convinced him to go down a ramp. He crashed hard at first, but soon he figured it out and now he pulls off just about any trick you could imagine, including the first ever wheelchair backflip. These days Aaron is busy traveling the globe competing against skaters and BMX riders, but he always makes time for aspiring hardcore sitters and even helps them learn some of the techniques. So don’t be surprised if you see HCS in the X-Games soon. For now you can see some of Aaron’s highlights here.
