Small Loans, Big Dreams
April 8, 2008 – 9:09 pm
Ok, I know I’m writing a lot about microfinance, but it is a revolutionary concept that is affecting great change…I can’t help it. Anyway, I had the opportunity to hear Alex Counts, CEO of Grameen Foundation, speak last night about his experiences, the current state of microfinance and where its headed in the future. Counts spent several years living in Bangladesh and working closely with Dr. Yunus in the early 1990’s and has now helped establish hundreds of MFI’s globally. His new book entitled Small Loans, Big Dreams, chronicles the success stories of borrowers, mostly women, around the world and the obstacles they overcame to pull themselves up out of poverty. It is an inspiring read that will also help you develop a deeper understanding about the microfinancing process, so get a copy, read it, and pass it on.
