With the price of gas continuing to rise many people are looking for alternate transportation solutions. One option worth looking into is Zipcar. This company offers nationwide car-sharing plans that let customers pay daily, monthly, or annually to use a car depending on how much driving they plan on doing. The rates vary by city, but actually end up being quite a bit less than owning your own car. Especially since everytime you use a Zipcar gas, insurance, and parking are already included.
The financial benefits are just the beginning. Zipcar is good for the environment as well. Surveys estimate that each Zipcar takes approximately 15 cars off the road; adding up to less greenhouse gas emission, less congestion, and less space needed for parking. In addition surveys show that Zipcars help build community because of the whole “sharing” concept and the fact that people tend to shop and interact more locally.
To be fair, Zipcar is mainly focused on urban areas, so if you don’t make your way into the city a lot its not going to be as beneficial, but overall, its an innovative concept that can be worthwile for many individual drivers, groups, or businesses.
