Have you ever done something to help someone or bring them joy, only to find that you got just as much help or joy giving as they did receiving? Earlier this week we told you about Journey For Change, a program that took thirty kids from one of Brooklyn’s roughest neighborhoods to help children in South Africa. The kids from the U.S. were excited to go make a difference in the lives of the African children, but reading some of their journals, its clear their lives were changed forever as well.
There is a joy in giving that cannot be matched by any other action. Once you’ve felt that you find yourself wanting to give more and more. Mathematically, it would seem the more you give the less you’ll have, but somehow giving defies the law of subtraction and works in the reverse. So next time you feel empty look for a way you can reach out to someone in need; I promise you’ll find exactly what you were looking for.
