Broads Donate $400 Million To BioMed Research
September 9, 2008 – 7:00 am
Billionaire philanthropists Eli and Edyth Broad recently announced they will be donating $400 million dollars to the Broad Institute. That is in addition to the $200 million they donated back in 2004 to start the biomedical research center that brings together leading scientists from MIT and Harvard to work on finding cures for various diseases or disorders. Since its inception the Broad Institute has already made major breakthroughs in determining genetic risk factors for autism, type 2 diabetes, and Chron’s disease. In addition they have discovered several new treatments for cancer, and malaria. We hope these new funds will help bring even more helpful discoveries in the years to come.
