In an effort to engage busy city-folk who may not have lots of time to volunteer, Craig’s Kitchen, a community feeding program in Brooklyn, has come up with a concept called the Dessert Corps.

Rather than have one volunteer spend hours baking a dessert for 100 people at each week’s community meal, the Dessert Corps gets 10 volunteers to make a homemade treat that serves 10, and then drop it off at the kitchen on the designated day.  With such a minimal time commitment, volunteers are likely to help out more often, and the regular kitchen staff has more time and resources to focus on the main meal and the wonderful families it serves.
